If you missed it, there's going to be some moving and some shaking during the next school year in the state's classifications and regions. And if you're fired up about it, the Utah High School Activities Association would like to know before you have to drive from Cedar City to Richfield for a soccer game.

Above is a copy of the first proposal for realignment for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Utah now realigns every two years in an effort to adjust its classes more nimbly, but as always, there's likely to be a handful of unhappy parties.

But the UHSAA is reaching out to the public, on its website from now until the Nov. 29 meeting to finalize the realignment plan. Those who prefer a more in-person approach are invited to a public forum at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28 at UHSAA headquarters in Midvale.

The biggest change will be six classifications for football, the split happening in the 3A division. The new classes will be referred to as 3AA (the bigger schools) and 3A (the smaller schools). The UHSAA expects the topmost classes 4A and 5A to be the same for all sports.

Some of the schools most affected by realignment are:

• Herriman: Moves into 5A, theoretically situated to be in a region with Utah County schools

• Viewmont: Moves into a region with its traditional northern rivals

• Westlake: Moves into 5A in Utah County region

• Ogden: Moves into 4A in region with current Region 5

• Kearns: Moves into 4A in region with current Region 6

• Orem, Timpanogos and Mountain View: Plays in a region with SLC schools such as Skyline and Olympus

• Spanish Fork and Payson: Moves into 4A in region with Provo and southern Utah County schools

• Wasatch: Moves into 4A in region with Utah County Schools

• Canyon View and Cedar City: Splits with current Region 9 in all sports except football

• Delta: Moves down to 2A in all sports but football, will play 3A in football

• Summit Academy: Moves up to 3A in football, 2A in all other sports

• Richfield and Manti: Move up to 3A in football, remain 2A in all other sports

There are obviously other schools affected, but the football split is, in itself, a long list. Check it out. Leave a comment.
