The month-long ordeal at Timpview that has led to football coach Louis Wong's suspension is nearing a conclusion.Wong's attorney, Elizabeth Dunning, will submit an appeal to the Provo School District on Thursday that addresses allegations of financial improprieties that were revealed by state and district audits. Wong was suspended on March 13. He originally was given 15 days to appeal, but Dunning was granted an extension through Thursday.
Dunning said Wednesday she hopes to meet with school district officials this week for an "informal effort to work it out" and save Wong's job.
"Everyone agrees that he has had tremendous and positive impact on the lives of lots of of young people," Dunning said, "and not just on football players either and not just boys."
Among the allegations leveled at Wong as claims that he used district funds to pay for personal car repairs, did not properly go through the bidding process for major expenditures and that some assistant coaches were hired without first having background checks.
"Everything [Wong] did was transparent to the administrators at Timpview," Dunning said. "Actions were approved by his adminstrators and he had no reason to doubt them."
