OK, so we're behind this week on athletes of the week for LAST week, and I apologize. But this post being a bit late doesn't diminish the accomplishments of the following athletes:
• Boys' basketball —Will Cannon, Olympus: The senior forward is not the only reason the Titans are back at the forefront of Class 4A, but as Olympus' leading scorer, he's played a big role. His game was in fantastic form last week, as he scored 20 in a close win over Davis, followed by a 30-10 double-double in a blowout win over Taylorsville. With the region schedule starting, Cannon will be a key factor in whether Olympus can win Region 7.
• Girls' basketball — Shannon Jenson, Westlake: The Thunder look to be in contention in Region 7, and Jenson is a huge reason why. The senior forward scored 26 against Fremont followed by an 18-point performance against Lehi. Westlake could be a major player in Class 4A, and Jenson should be a name that comes up again when all-state voting rolls around.
• Wrestling — Kohl Tolbert, Delta: It's tough to argue that anyone had a better weekend than Tolbert in the wrestling world. First, the Delta 106-pounder won his bracket at the Tooele Best of the West tournament. In every match, he won by pin. He continued the trend at Monday's All-Star Duals by pinning Orem's Jovani Tolayo in the first round, the shortest match of the night. If Delta continues its dominance in 3A wrestling this season, you can bet Tolbert will be one of the reasons why.
