As Lone Peak traipses across the country, the team is opening itself up to more national exposure. Now some bigger scouts and recruiters are getting a look at the Knights and like what they see.
The team's 3-1 performance at the Beach Ball Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C., was one of the reasons Lone Peak regained a national ranking, checking in at No. 40 in ESPN's most recent Top 50. And ESPN's Dave Telep took an interest in junior guard Nick Emery, who he tentatively referred to as a potential "Next Jimmer."
You can read Telep's full post on ESPN, but here's a selection of his evaluation of Emery.
Should [Jabari] Parker not attend BYU, it may be three more seasons before America gets to see the act of Nick Emery. Trust me, this kid is fun. Keeping in mind, he's not Jimmer, he is a guard with range, swagger and the confidence to think he's good enough to beat you. Like Jimmer, he's going to need to prove he can guard you and more so, take care of the ball.
In the first two rounds of the Beach Ball Classic, Emery shot 11-of-26 from 3-point range and turned it over six times. As his team advanced to play stiffer competition, Emery closed the final two games going 7-of-20 from deep and had two assists and eight turnovers. [Coach Quincy] Lewis knows there's room for improvement.
