The U.S. Department of Justice filed an 18-page complaint against the cities of Colorado City and Hildale today, with some serious, though not necessarily new, allegations about treatment of nonmembers of the polygamous FLDS.
There are a lot of allegations in the complaint, some more specific than others. They're aren't any names mentioned. I can connect some with specific cases I know about, but there are others I'm not familiar with (anyone know more about the runaway underage bride from 2000?)
It seems like the end goal for the feds might be a takeover of the marshals and town government, similar to the '05 school takeover. The lawsuit is of the one of the first FLDS-related cases we've seen from the feds, so it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
