Pac-12: Cal's Montgomery retiring

The retirement of California basketball coach Mike Montgomery will resonate throughout Utah. As Montana's former coach, Montgomery has been a mentor to Utah State coach Stew Morrill and Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak.

Utah's recruitment of 7-foot Austrian center Jakob Poeltl also could be affected, because he's a Cal target.

Montgomery, 67, made a succcessful re-entry into college basketball with six good years at Cal, after struggling with the Golden State Warriors. His glory years were at Stanford, where he won 393 games in 18 seasons.
