Utah's members of Congress celebrate Pioneer Day. Hatch pushes back on "deal" story. Some Olympic records destroyed.
Happy Tuesday and happy Pioneer Day. While Utahns will celebrate with fireworks and parades, some Beehive State ex-pats in the D.C. region will tip their hat to Brigham Young with some tasty treats:
-> Sen. Mike Lee's office plans a homemade root beer float party. Rep. Jim Matheson hosts a special lunch "featuring everyone's favorite Utah pioneer recipes (think Jell-O salad)." Rep. Jason Chaffetz's staff had planned to pull handcarts to work and sing pioneer songs, but turns out, nobody makes home-made hand carts in the D.C. region, so they've decided to trek out to Falls Church and visit Cafe Rio. The offices of Sen. Orrin Hatch and Rep. Rob Bishop are ordering in lunch ... from Cafe Rio.
Topping the news: Hatch's office is pushing back on that story we highlighted yesterday about the senator saying he's ready to make a deal to get things done with taxes and entitlements. Hatch's office says the story went too far, as some ultra-conservatives may feel betrayed by the idea. [WaPost]
