Add Rep. Mike Morley to the list of Utah County legislators who won’t be back at the Capitol next year.

Morley confirmed Monday that he has decided not to seek re-election after 10 years in the Utah House, which he said was “a pretty good stint in the Legislature.”

Morley said he decided his served long enough.

“I do appreciate my association with the Legislature,” he said. “It’s been a great experience for me, but I just felt 10 years was my duty and that was enough.”

Morley, who is in construction and real estate developer said his time in the House was a great learning experience “but it’s not my life.”

There is an open Senate seat that Morley said he considered running for and he acknowledges was probably drawn with him in mind. But after discussing the possibility with his wife, he decided against it.

“You don’t want to quit when you’re under attack or being run out on a rail,” he said.

His departure continues remarkable churn in the Utah County delegation.

Rep. Ken Sumsion, R-American Fork, is running for governor; Rep. Chris Herrod, R-Orem, is running for U.S. Senate; and Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, R-Provo, is running for Congress. All three will have to give up their House seats.

Rep. Craig Frank — who replaced Rep. Holly Richardson who replaced Frank last year — won’t be eligible to run for re-election in House District 57 and has said he will run for Senate. That means either he or the current senator, John Valentine, won’t be back in that seat.

That means nearly half of the 11 members from Utah County will be different from the current roster.
