Chaffetz v. Hatch. Huntsman: Time to act now. Herbert tours flooded Utah.

Happy Wednesday and welcome to June. The GOP-controlled House of Representatives sent a loud and clear message last night on raising the debt limit: NO. All three of Utah's members, including Democrat Jim Matheson, voted against raising the country's credit card limit. This is the first of many votes to come. [Thomas]

Topping the news: Rep. Jason Chaffetz has told friends that he plans to challenge Sen. Orrin Hatch, though — on the record — he says he'll wait 'til later to make any announcement. [Trib]

Sen. Lee is in Utah meeting with constituents but his office offered no details head of time.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz joins other House Republicans at the White House to meet with the president, hits a Republican Study Committee meeting and attends a Judiciary Committee hearing on Internet commerce.

Reps. Rob Bishop and Jim Matheson did not release a public schedule.

Gov. Gary Herbert meets with U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan at the Grand America, does a homelessness event, meets on regional emergency operations and sits down with LaVarr Webb.

SL Co. Mayor Peter Corroon speaks at a news conference announcing the county's new mental health service provider OptumHealth then heads to the Capitol for rmarks at a HUD media event and later that night talks to the Rose Park Community Council meeting.

SLC Ralph Becker gets briefed on the Sugar House streetcar, attends the groundbreaking of the Public Safety building and later the kick-off event for Wasatch 2040.

WVC Mayor Mike Winder also attends the Wasatch Choices 2040 event, does a ribbon-cutting for Big Daddy's Pizza and holds "Milk with the Mayor" open-door meetings.

President Barack Obama hosts House Republicans in the East Room, and later gets a briefing on the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season before sitting down with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
