Wednesday night could have been a historic night for speedskater Shani Davis, who was competing in the 1,000-meter race. Davis was attempting to become the first man to win gold in the same event in three straight Olympics.

My plan for this race was to concentrate on the intensity of his "game face," so I positioned myself on the ground level, about halfway through the turn. Using a 400 mm lens, I focused on Davis as he skated by and shot a burst of 24 pictures. This one is my favorite of the series because I like how his arm frames his face and you actually can see his eye watering from the wind.
