Park City's Sage Kotsenburg joined an exclusive club of U.S. Olympians when he won the first gold medal awarded in the 2014 Games, triumphing in slopestyle snowboarding. The only other Americans who have claimed the first gold medal of any Winter Olympics are Charlie Jewraw in speedskating in 1924 (the inaugural Winter Games), Jack Shea in speedskating in 1932 and Amy Mead-Lawrence in Alpine skiing in 1952. Tommy Moe (Alpine skiing, 1994), Chad Hedrick (speedskating, 2006) and Hannah Kearney (freestyle skiing, 2010) also won gold medals on the first day they were awarded.

Kotsenburg appeared on NBC's "Today" show Monday with figure skaters Meryl Davis and Charlie White.
