This week's Utah Crowd-Funding project is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

The Salt Lake Dance Center is preparing to mount its holiday show, "The Night Before Christmas," a ballet mash-up of "The Nutcracker," Mother Goose stories and Santa Claus created by the father-daughter duo of Neil Hess and Jillana Hess Webb. It's set to be performed Dec. 5 and 6 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City.

The dance center is seeking money to buy special-effects equipment, costuming, props, rehearsal space and theater rental, as well as hiring a stage crew to help run the show smoothly. If the center raises enough money, it may be able to add a matinee performance.

The center has gone to Kickstarter, trying to raise $5,000 for the production. So far, the drive has raised $130 toward that goal. The deadlline is Nov. 11.

Benefits for backers range from a decal (for $5) to four opening-night tickets and a backstage tour (for $500).
