Short literary fiction will get the spotlight in Salt Lake City in November, when the touring version of the public-radio program "Selected Shorts" comes in for a reading.

The series will present an evening of "Surprising Tales" on Saturday, Nov. 15, at The Grand Theatre at Salt Lake Community College, 1575 S. State St., Salt Lake City.

The featured readers will be actor David Strathairn ("Lincoln," "Good Night, and Good Luck," "The Return of the Secaucus Seven") and actress Kirsten Vangsness ("Criminal Minds"). Doug Fabrizio, host of KUER's "Radio West," will emcee the event, which will be recorded live for KUER's audience.

The show — co-produced by Symphony Space and WNYC Radio in New York — is marking its 30th season. The show has featured a variety of guest hosts since the death in 2012 of Symphony Space's founding artistic director and the program's on-air announcer, Isaiah Sheffer.

"Selected Shorts" airs on KUER, 90.1 FM, Sundays at 7 p.m. It also airs on rival station KCPW, 88.3 FM, Saturdays at 4 p.m.
