Video: First look at ‘SLC Punk” sequel, “Punk’s Dead” [NSFW]
It’s been a month since director James Merendino wrapped filming in Salt Lake City on "Punk’s Dead," and he’s just released the first teaser trailer.
The video can be seen above, but be warned: The F-bomb is used frequently, and there is some drug use.
The movie is a follow-up to Merendino’s 1999 cult classic "SLC Punk!," which Merendino based on his own experiences growing up in Salt Lake City’s ‘80s punk scene.
According to The Wrap, the sequel brings back cast members Devon Sawa (Sean), Adam Pascal (Eddie), James Duval (John the Mod) and Michael Goorjian as Heroin Bob — who narrates the film as a ghost, since Bob died in the first film.
The new film is set in 2004, and follows the exploits of Bob’s son Ross (played by "The Book Thief’s" Ben Schnetzer). Also in the cast are Sarah Clarke (Bella’s mom in the "Twilight" series) and rapper Machine Gun Kelly.
Merendino is editing the movie in New York. The Internet Movie Database lists a Nov. 21 release date, but that seems a tad ambitious. The possibility that the movie would get into the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, 16 years after "SLC Punk!" premiered in Park City, is too delicious to dream of.
