Plans for tonight: Listening to Train, free

The Polyphonic Spree, the orchestral/choral pop-rock band, performs tonight at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Opening act: Sarah Jaffe. Show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $22, at Smith’s Tix.

• Futuristic electronic/rock band Ghost Town performs tonight at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15, at Smith’s Tix.

• Country superstar Tim McGraw headlines tonight at Usana Amphitheatre, 5150 S. 6055 West, West Valley City. Opening acts: Kip Moore, Cassadee Pope. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets, from $29.75 to $69.75, available at Smith’s Tix.



Lyle Lovett & His Large Band, which was alt-country before alt-country was cool, performs tonight at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way, University of Utah campus, Salt Lake City. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and is sold out.

The Orchestra, featuring former members of ELO playing the band’s hits, performs tonight at Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 2250 Deer Park Drive, Park City. Part of the Deer Valley Music Festival (though the Utah Symphony is not performing). Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, from $32 to $85, available at ArtTix.

• The tribute act Arrival - The Music of ABBA performs tonight at the Sandy Amphitheater, 9400 S. 1300 East, Sandy. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets, from $15 to $25, available at Smith’s Tix.

• Venezuelan stand-up comic Emilio Lovera performs Saturday at The Complex, 536 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City. Opening act: Cesar Muñoz. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35, at Smith’s Tix.

• Lo-fi singer-songwriter Jay Brannan performs Saturday at The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, Salt Lake City. Opening act: Kelli Moyle; a DJ set by Jesse Walker follows. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 on the day of the show, at 24Tix.

• The tribute show "Just Imagine: The John Lennon Experience" featuring Tim Piper, takes place Saturday at Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 2250 Deer Park Drive, Park City. Part of the Deer Valley Music Festival (though the Utah Symphony is not performing). Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, from $29 to $69, available at ArtTix.

• Pop-rock band Train performs a free show Saturday in the plaza outside EnergySolutions Arena, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Opening act: The Wallflowers. Show starts at 8 p.m. Admission is free; no tickets are necessary, first come, first served.

• Pop singer and one-time "American Idol" champion David Cook performs Saturday at the Sandy Amphitheater, 9400 S. 1300 East, Sandy. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets, from $15 to $20, available at Smith’s Tix.

• Austin rock/R&B/soul musician Gary Clark Jr. performs Sunday at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way, University of Utah campus, Salt Lake City. Opening act: Black Pistol Fire. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $37 (general), at the Red Butte website.

• Indie-pop band Miniature Tigers performs Sunday at Kilby Court, 741 S. Kilby Court (330 West), Salt Lake City. Opening acts: The Griswolds, Finish Ticket. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 on the day of the show.

• Jam-rock band Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons performs Sunday at The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, Salt Lake City. Opening acts: Suspicious Soundsystem, Homo Leviticus. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, at 24Tix.
