• Broadway legend Elaine Stritch, who performed Stephen Sondheim’s works like no one else, has died at the age of 89. She also starred in movies, and most recently appeared as Alec Baldwin’s mother on "30 Rock." [Los Angeles Times]

• "Gone Girl," director David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s mystery novel, will be the opening-night film at the New York Film Festival on Sept. 26. [Variety]

• Ben Whishaw, who portrayed Q in the James Bond movie "Skyfall," will perform the voice of Paddington the Bear in the movie "Paddington." He replaces Colin Firth, who dropped out of the project. [The Hollywood Reporter]
