A rainstorm may have dampened enthusiasm at the Utah Arts Festival on Thursday, but art lovers rallied the rest of the weekend.

Festival organizers are still tallying the numbers, but spokeswoman Teri Mumm said Tuesday that attendance for the four-day festival will equal or exceed last year's figure — somewhere around 85,000.

"We did bounce back and recover fully from Thursday's rain," Mumm said.

Thursday's rainstorm had Artist Marketplace vendors rolling out the tarps, forced technicians to cut power temporarily to performance stages, and led to the cancellation of one of two evening performances by the street-theater troupe Australia's Strange Fruit.

The festival also announced the award winners among the artists who displayed their work in Salt Lake City's Library Square over the weekend.
