Murray Close | Courtesy Lionsgate Films Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' out in theaters Nov. 22, 2013.

Here’s what’s being talked about in pop culture:

• Taylor Swift was the big winner at the American Music Awards last night, taking four trophies including Artist of the Year. Justin Timberlake got three trophies, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and One Direction each got two. [AP, via The Salt Lake Tribune]

• "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" scored a November record at the box office this weekend, with $161.1 million — thus inspiring bad pun-filled headlines of the "torched the competition" variety. [Box Office Mojo]

• "Family Guy" killed off one of its most popular characters last night. [The Huffington Post]
