The Cricket’s Daily 3: A terrible opening for ‘Fifth Estate’

Here’s what’s being talked about in pop culture:

• So the box-office clout of Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t such a big thing, as the WikiLeaks drma "The Fifth Estate" took in a measly $1.7 million at the box office — the worst numbers for a major release all year. Winning the weekend, for the third week in a row, is the space survival drama "Gravity," which edged out "Captain Phillips" and the "Carrie" remake. [Box Office Mojo]

• Attention, fans of "Community" (and you know who you are): Get ready for more self-referential fun, when NBC’s cult-fave sitcom returns in January. This announcement follows last week’s decision to cancel new shows "Ironside" and "Welcome to the Family." [Vulture]

• Carol Burnett received the Mark Twain Prize, the Kennedy Center’s top award for humor. (The ceremony was held this weekend, but will be televised on PBS on Nov. 24.) [Entertainment Weekly]
