• Stephen Colbert rode to the rescue of Mike Cassesso and MaiLien Le, a couple whose wedding plans were disrupted by the government shutdown (the ceremony was supposed to be at the Jefferson Memorial) — by performing their wedding on "The Colbert Report," with Mandy Patinkin and Audra MacDonald helping. • Speaking of the government shutdown, D.C. area chef Bryan Voltaggio (who was a finalist in the just-completed season of "Top Chef Masters") is giving free pizza to government employees — with the exception of members of Congress. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Guillermo Del Toro directed the credits sequence of this Sunday’s "The Simpsons" — the annual Halloween "Treehouse of Horror" episode — with a crazy-cool segment that references his movies and other scary classics. [The Hollywood Reporter]
