Air Supply, that paragon of '80s easy listening, is getting the "Mamma Mia!" treatment.
Graham Russell, lead singer of the music group (who now lives in Park City), told an Ohio newspaper recently that a jukebox musical, called "Lost in Love," is in the works.
"Our music really lends itself to a musical," Russell told The Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator. "We've been waiting for some years for the right story. Several of them came, but we didn't feel they were right. The story really needs to elevate itself to the music because the music kind of speaks for itself. To have a 'Mamma Mia!' kind of success would be great, but the long-term goal would be to get our music across to a new generation."
The musical — which, like "Mamma Mia!" did for Abba, strings a story along such Air Supply hits as "Every Woman in the World," "All Out of Love" and "Lost in Love" — has had preliminary readings with Broadway stars Constantine Maroulis ("Rock of Ages") and Andrea McArdle ("Annie"). It's set to debut in Singapore next May, with a goal of arriving in the United States late in 2014.
