It's hard to believe, when the leaves haven't even started turning, that it's time to think about the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

But it's true, filmmakers and film lovers: The season is upon us.

General registration for passes and ticket packages for next year's festival begins Tuesday, starting at noon Mountain Time, on the Sundance website. Registration runs through Oct. 9.

Sundance sent out an email reminder of this Wednesday afternoon — combined with a pitch to join the Sundance Institute, since members get to the front of the line for ticket deals.

Filmmakers also are in the final throes of finishing their films for submission to the festival. The late deadline for short films is Monday, Sept. 16, and the late deadline for feature films is Monday, Sept. 23.

The 2014 Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 16-26 in Park City, and at venues in Salt Lake City, Ogden and the Sundance resort.
