Utah's Trent Harris pays tribute to Karen Black

When news broke Thursday of the death of actress Karen Black, The Cricket's first thought was for Trent Harris.

Black (who died Wednesday of cancer at the age of 74) starred in two movies the maverick Utah filmmaker directed in the mid-'90s – the movies that made his out-there reputation: "Rubin & Ed" and "Plan 10 From Outer Space."

The Cricket contacted Harris via email, and this is what he had to say about Black's involvement in "Plan 10," in which she played Nehor, a space queen who was the angry 27 th wife of Brigham Young:

"She called me up and said, 'Trent, I heard you are making a movie,' and I said, 'Karen, I have no money.' She said, 'I will be there on Friday.'"

Harris continued: "She was kind and funny and she love to work and she was the ONLY person in Hollywood that gave a s--- about me and what I was doing. You cannot imagine how much I will miss this lady. I will really miss her. I feel terrible. I honestly feel terrible."

On Thursday night, Harris also posted a tribute to Black on his Facebook page:

"KAREN BLACK IS IN OUTER SPACE with Ginsberg and W.C. Fields, and my dog Mr. Butz, and she is probably performing at this moment for God. There you have it. GO KAREN!!! We will miss you here. WE WILL MISS YOU! Karen will never rest in peace, she was just too damn much FUN!"
