The Cricket's Daily 3: Anne Frank and the pop star
Here's what's happening today in pop culture:
• Justin Bieber's Friday visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam drew criticism to the pop singer, who wrote in the house's guest book: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber." In spite of the self-centeredness of Bieber's observation, representatives for the Anne Frank House called the visit "positive," and hoped it inspires Bieber's fans to read "The Diary of Anne Frank," her account of hiding from the Nazis during World War II. • The Jackie Robinson biopic "42" took the top spot in the weekend box office, with $27.2 million. [Movie City News]
• "Marvel's The Avengers" was named Movie of the Year at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, as well as best villain and best fight. Its three awards tied "Silver Linings Playbook," which won honors for best female and male performances for Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, who shared the "Best Kiss" trophy.
