Plans for tonight: A cello’s not just for classical music

• The groundbreaking 1990 documentary "Paris Is Burning," chronicling the lives of minority drag queens in New York City (and introducing the world to "voguing" years before Madonna made it popular), screens at Brewvies Cinema Pub, 667 S. 200 West, Salt Lake City. Part of the Utah Film Center’s "Damn These Heels" year-round program. Screening starts at 7. Free (must be 21 or older).
• Genre-crossing cellist Ben Sollee performs at The State Room, 638 S. State St., Salt Lake City. Opening act: Luke Reynolds. Show starts at 8. Tickets are $18, at the venue’s website.
