Time to check in on one of The Cricket's favorite Utah filmmakers, Jared Hess — who's got a new movie in the works, and a big star attached to it.
Hess, the director of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Gentleman Broncos," is set to direct "Loomis Fargo," an action-comedy based on a real-life armored-car heist. And, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hess has a star for his movie: Jim Carrey, who's in negotiations to play an ex-military leader who oversees a group of armored-car guards pulling off a $17 million heist.
The script has been bounced around Hollywood, the trade paper reports. The first draft was by Emily Spivey (creator of TV's "Up All Night"), then worked on by Danny McBride and Jody Hill ("Eastbound and Down"), and most recently by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer (who worked on the animated "Napoleon Dynamite" series for Fox).
Meanwhile, Hess' wife and frequent screenwriting partner Jerusha Hess is waiting for her directorial debut, "Austenland," to see the light of day. It's an adaptation of Utah author Shannon Hale's comic romance about a "Pride & Prejudice"-obsessed woman (Keri Russell) visiting a Jane Austen theme park.
