• The movie world is focusing on Canada, as the Toronto International Film Festival — the biggest in North America, and a springboard for many Oscar contenders — begins today. [CTV News]

• This year's honorary Oscar recipients: Stuntman/director Hal Needham ("Smokey and the Bandit"), documentarian D.A.
