Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• Coming to your bookstore on Sept. 27: The Casual Vacancy, a "darkly comic" tale of intrigue in a small English town. Why should you care: It's the first book by J.K. Rowling since finishing the Harry Potter series - and her first book aimed at adults. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Frances Bean Cobain says "Twitter should ban my mother," Courtney Love, after Love's accusation that Dave Grohl — the former Nirvana bandmate of Love's husband Kurt Cobain, now fronting Foo Fighters — once "hit on Frances." Both Frances Cobain and Grohl said Love was not telling the truth. [Billboard]

• Oh brother — or, rather, oh sister: The Catholic League's William Donohue, self-appointed defender of the faith, is mad about "The Three Stooges" for putting Kate Upton in a nun-bikini and for naming Larry David's character "Sister Mary Mengele." Filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly treat the complaint with all the seriousness it deserves: "I think we did the audinece a favor by letting Kate Upton wear the nun-kini rather than Larry David — it could have gone either way." [The Hollywood Reporter]
