New coach Quin Snyder is looking forward to the players on Utah's roster battling for playing time — a fight that will begin in training camp.

"You have to have competition," Snyder said. "There are certain players that have obviously proven over time that they deserve to have you think of them [as starters]. That said, everybody has to come and compete. In that light, I think of Gordon Hayward or Derrick Favors — the guys who have had some success here. ... They would be the first ones to want competition. So individually and externally, competition makes you better. I think that's got to be true of lineups, of playing time, of all those things."

Snyder believes Enes Kanter and Favors can playing together effectively, although both are probably best at center.

"We have some unique combinations we're able to put out on the floor — Enes and Derrick being one of them," Syder said. "They are both good players. They are both big. So we are going to see where all those different lineups go. But those twop guys playing together, they can do that. They can absolutely do that."

Tribune colleague Kurt Kragthorpe went 2-for-2 at the Jazz's media day.

Kragthorpe asked general manager Dennis Lindsey and Snyder how players go "from good to great" in the NBA and got the same response.

"That's a good question," Lindsey said.

Moments later, Snyder said, "That's a good question."
