Dante Exum wants to learn from John Stockton

Dante Exum has already learned a few things from John Stockton.

The Jazz's new point guard says he's read the legendary point guard's autobiography, "Assisted" and has a copy on his bookshelf.

Now Exum would like to get some advice straight from the man himself.

"I hope I get to talk to him, and the Jazz bring him in to teach me a few things," Exum said Tuesday.

Stockton has helped out the team's youngsters before, spending time at his Washington home last summer with guards Trey Burke and Alec Burks.

But it's a request Exum has yet to officially make.

"It's something I want. I haven't said anything yet," he told reporters. "It's only my third day here."

Exum, by the way, has a small connection to Stockton.

Exum's father, Cecil, roomed with Stockton at the Portsmouth Invitational in 1984. And the younger Exum says he's long admired the Hall of Famer.

"My dad has talked about him and how he did it, how he got in the league," Exum said. "He wasn't the man right away. He worked his way up. You look at him and what he's done over his career and, definitely, as a point guard, you look up to that."

Gift for the New Guy

Derrick Favors wanted to make his rookie feel at home, so the Jazz forward picked him up a present: a bottle of Aussie brand shampoo.

"Second day here and I'm already getting fits," the Australian Exum said with a laugh. "The veterans aren't too hard on me."

The shampoo runs about $4 a bottle.

And it's a product Exum said he'd never heard of before.

"I'm about to go hit the showers and test that out," he said with a laugh following Tuesday's practice.
