There's a fair bit of confusion about the latest deal involving the Jazz, in which they will sign and trade Randy Foye to the Denver Nuggets.
The trade, which was first reported by the Yahoo! Sports and the Deseret News, will give the Jazz another second-round pick. The sign and trade, for three years, $9 million, will be folded into a three-team trade involving the Warriors, Nuggets and Jazz.
Last week, the Jazz took on $24 million in contracts fromthe Warriors, plus four draft picks, in exchange for former second-round pick Kevin Murphy. For the Warriors, the deal was to clear space to sign free agent Andre Iguodala to a four-year, $48 million contract.
Meanwhile, Foye had been negotiating independently with Denver, which needs shooting. At that point, it made sense to combine what were initially conceived and agreed to as three separate deals into one.
So, if you're keeping track, the Jazz gave up Murphy and Foye in exchange for Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson, Brandon Rush (collectively, $24 million off the books next summer), first round draft picks in 2014 and 2017, two second round picks from the Warriors, and a 2018 second rounder from the Nuggets.
