The Jazz fell to 1-3 Monday with another disheartening road loss, this one 103-94 in Memphis.

Some key points to take away from this one as the Jazz head home to play the Lakers on Wednesday:

• Many fans have clamored for more Alec Burks. He finally got some early minutes and really struggled. Perhaps chalk that up to rust — he had only played 2 minutes in three games — but it's still hard to see him bumping guys from the rotation, particularly if the Jazz trend toward an eight-man rotation, like they played in the second half against the Grizzlies. Burks did not score in six minutes and missed his two attempts.

• Mo Williams was hit with his second technical foul of the season with 3.4 seconds remaining Monday. Randy Foye was in transition when he was stopped cold when he collided wiht 265-pounder Marc Gasol. Gasol grabbed Foye and pushed him to the ground (on a player similar to the one for which Williams received a flagrant foul against the Spurs on Saturday). Williams ran in and got in Gasol's face before helping up Foye. In addition to Williams' technical, Gasol was hit with a flagrant foul.

Following the game, coach Tyrone Corbin praised Williams for stepping in to defend Foye.

"That's one of the things that he will lead us in," Corbin said. "He's a great teammate, he understands the little parts of the game and not let anybody get an edge on you. It was a positive seeing him come in and support his player. We're just happy to see him do it."

Williams said his actions were "self-explanatory."

"It's my teammate," he said. "I think all my teammates know that's my instinct I ride with. Whoever's got their jersey on that says "Jazz," that's it. Nothing else matters. I know a couple of those guys on the [Grizzlies] team, but when you're on the court, I don't care. I felt like that wasn't a basketball play and I should be the one to help him up."

• Marvin Wiliams' struggles continue. Remember when the first-year Jazz forward scored 21 points to lift the Jazz to an opening-night win over the Mavericks? Williams has mostly disappeared since that night. The former No. 2 overall pick scored 6 points against Memphis, bringing his total stat line for the three road games to 19 points on 8-of-22 shooting. Williams had not shot free throws on this road trip until Monday, when he made two.

• Paul Millsap made two more 3-pointers to keep his season percentage perfect at 5-for-5 before missing in the fourth quarter. He was 7-of-31 a year ago, and seems destined to eclipse that number of attempts by Thanksgiving.

• Corbin was asked if the Jazz's balance is a liability, in the sense that they don't have a go-to scorer down the stretch. As the game was getting out of hand in the fourth quarter, the Jazz didn't have a first-choice player to take shots. Corbin roundly rejected that idea.

"The more guys you have are capable of scoring," Corbin said, "the better off you should be. It's always good in some situations if you have one guy that everybody kind of focuses on, the guys can feed off that. But we have a system, and we have guys we can go to in different places and get scoring where it's going to be different guys different nights."
