The Jazz waived point guard Chris Quinn and forward Darnell Jackson following their 97-91 win over the Blazers at EnergySolutions Arena, The Tribune confirmed, bringing their roster down to the league maximum 15 player.
Quinn, a former starter with the Miami Heat, averaged 1.8 points, 1 rebound and 1.4 assists during the exhibition season for the Jazz, while Jackson, averaged 1.7 points per game. Jackson gained some notoriety for the Jazz when he was ejected for "hostile acts" in the final seconds of the Jazz's win over the Clippers in Salt Lake City.
Raja Bell remains the one mystery on the Jazz's roster, having been away from the team throughout fall camp and, following a public falling out with coach Tyrone Corbin, was not expected to rejoin the team for the third year of his contract.
Before the Blazers game, Al Jefferson voiced support for Jackson, whom he has known since the two were in high school.
"He's always been a tough-nosed type of player," Jefferson said. "Go hard every time you step on the court. So when I found out he was in our camp, I knew it was going to be a very physical camp, that he was going to make you step up and play hard. He's always been that way.
"When he gets on that court he's a machine, he's gonna make you play. We're friends off the court, but he's going to go at you on the floor, and that's the type of guy you need.
"It's not my decision, but a guy like him, every team needs a guy like him on it."
