Portland, Ore. — The Jazz are expected to sign point guard Blake Ahearn for the remainder of the season, The Salt Lake Tribune learned Thursday.

Ahearn's initial 10-day contract with Utah expires Thursday. Jazz General Manager Kevin O'Connor said late Wednesday he would discuss re-signing Ahearn with Utah's coaches before making a final decision.

Ahearn, 27, is averaging 1 point and 5 minutes in three games.

He played 5 scoreless minutes Wednesday during the Jazz's 112-91 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Ahearn is Utah's third point guard, backing up starter Devin Harris and Jamaal Tinsley. Reserve Earl Watson is out for the season due to a right knee injury.Brian T. SmithTwitter: @tribjazz
