Blake Ahearn, the newest member of the Jazz, has arrived in Utah, passed his physical and participated in his first practice Tuesday morning.
Ahearn, a 6-foot-3 guard, was summoned from his home in St. Louis after Earl Watson and C.J. Miles were injured in Monday night's 114-104 loss at San Antonio.
Watson will undergo knee surgery. Miles suffered a strained calf and will be re-evaluated next week. With veterans Josh Howard and Raja Bell already injured and unavailable, the Jazz were down to 10 healthy players in the rematch with San Antonio on Monday night.
During the 91-84 win, however, Jeremy Evans suffered a sprained ankle. His status for Wednesday's game at Houston will likely be a game-time decision, making the addition of Ahearn even more timely. His goals during the final eight games of the abbreviated season?
"Just take advantage of an opportunity -- whatever it is," Ahearn said. "Control what you can and make the best of it. ... I play hard. I'm a skill player. I kind of hang my hat on shooting and passing."
Coach Tyrone Corbin called Ahearn "a combination guard, but probably more of a point. He's a really good shooter and can get you into your offense. We'll probably use him that way. ... This is a great opportunity for him to get a little time because we are so shorthanded right now. So we'll see how it goes."
The Jazz leave Tuesday afternoon for Houston, where they begin a three-game trip against the Rockets. The other stops: New Orleans on Friday and Memphis on Saturday.
