Jazz guard Raja Bell won't be suspended or fined and is expected to be in uniform against the Pistons.

Excerpts from a media interview Monday with Utah General Manager Kevin O'Connor about a private meeting with Bell, among other issues.

O'Connor on the meeting: We talked about what had transpired and, more importantly, what we were going to do going forward. That chapter's closed and we're moving on.

Sending a reminder to Bell he's a player and Corbin's the coach: I think Raja answered that question, too. That's how we deal around here. Owners own and managers manage, coaches coach and players play and scouts scout.

Tipping point to send Bell home: That's personal. And I'll give you no comment on that one. That stays between coach and Raja and we'll move on from there.

Bell not being suspended: … We're committed. Raja's a competitor. Coach is a competitor. We're going to try and figure out a way to get sixth or fifth place in the [conference]. That's our goal and that's what we talked about in there. That's the best way to do that.

Did Bell ask to be traded: I have no comment on that.

Prefer Bell's with Jazz for rest of season and remainder of deal: Yeah, he's under contract. It's not like — they had an issue. Issues over with and you move on. Don't make too much out of this. I don't think it is.

Decision to send Bell home after loss to Philly on Friday: That's coach's call.

Importance of Bell saying he's never questioned Corbin's ability to coach Jazz: There's amendments that he's entitled to. Free speech is wonderful, so he can say anything he wants to say. You can ask him. We didn't prep him. We didn't say, 'Hey, you're going to say this.' We didn't talk to him before now. That's how we try to deal with things.

Bell starting or being on bench: That's coach's call. Irregardless of this, he was having an MRI on his knee today.

Al Jefferson's family matter: I'd rather not go there, but it is a family issue. … I don't have that update, but I'm not ruling [him playing] out. That's important to know. It's not like I'm trying to hide something on this. I just don't have a feeling. It'll eventually come out, but I feel in situations like this it should come from the player.

Jazz active in trade talks: … We're active. We're listening. We're aggressive in trying to talk to [teams].

Flexibility in talks: Our ownership has said, 'Hey, use it if you feel like it's going to help you.' But … it would have to be something long term. Brian T. Smith
