Corbin confident Jazz are ready for the road
Published on Feb 5, 2012 10:58AM

The Jazz play back-to-back road games for the first time in more than a month Monday and Tuesday, when they visit New York and Indiana, respectively.

The Jazz are 13-9 heading into the game against the Knicks, including 11-4 at EnergySolutions. They are only 2-5 on the road, but coach Tyrone Corbin believes his team is more confident after the home-oriented start to the abbreviated 66-game season.

"I think we are better prepared," Corbin said before Sunday morning's practice. " ... The way we're playing now -- the practices we've had -- I think we're ready to go on the road."

---

During his career, Corbin played many times in Madison Square Garden. He knows there is a special feel to games in New York.

"The buzz in Madison Square Garden is there -- it's always going to be there," Corbin said. "It's just such an historic place. So many Hall of Famers have played in the building. There's so much excitement about playing in New York. If you can't get excited about playing in Madison Square Garden, man, you can't be an athlete. ... It's the Garden."

The Knicks, however, haven't had the start to the season that many expected. Despite the presence of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire on the roster, they are only 9-15.

"They are struggling a little bit record-wise, but they are a good team," Corbin said. "They are going to get it going at some point. You just don't want it to be the night you're playing them."

---

For only the fourth time in the first 24 games, rookie Alec Burks did not play during the Jazz's 96-87 victory over the Lakers on Saturday night.

"Just the rotation," Corbin said. "The guys were going good in there. ... I'd like to find minutes for [everybody]. But I want to give guys quality minutes and not just throw them in for a short amount of time."

Asked if it's difficult to get more than nine or 10 players quality minutes, Corbin said, "It is. But it's a great thing to have -- guys that you are comfortable with putting in the game."

---

Obviously, the public feud between CEO Greg Miller and Hall of Famer Karl Malone did not impact the Jazz during their win over the Lakers.

"That's a good thing," Corbin said. "It's a good thing for the team, that they moved past it -- just go out and do your job on the floor. We couldn't do anything about it at that point, anyway, so it was great to see this team just go out and play."

---

The Jazz, who were down to 10 players in Thursday night's 119-101 loss at Golden State, start this mini-road trip in good health.

All 13 players will be available against the Knicks, including Earl Watson (ankle sprain), Raja Bell (adductor strain) and Devin Harris (sore hamstring).
