Utah Jazz's Earl Watson not with team, out vs. Golden State Warriors
Published on Feb 2, 2012 06:50PM

Oakland, Calif. — Jazz reserve point guard Earl Watson (sprained left ankle) is not with the team for a game Thursday against the Golden State Warriors and will receive a second opinion about his injury before returning to action.

He flew with Utah and arrived in Oakland on Thursday, but then left for Los Angeles to see a doctor. Watson's decision to receive a second opinion was announced by the Jazz at 4:40 p.m. PT.

Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said he supports Watson's decision to get a second opinion. The Jazz are unlikely to practice Friday after playing a home-away back-to-back, and Corbin said Watson used the window to further evaluate his ankle.

Veteran Jamaal Tinsley will back up starting point guard Devin Harris.

Watson hurt his ankle with 1 minute left during the third quarter of Utah's 107-105 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday and didn't return. Postgame X-rays were negative and Watson was initially listed as doubtful against Golden State.

Asked late Wednesday if he'd be able to play, Watson said, "I don't know."

"We'll see what it feel like [Thursday]," he said. "It swelled up pretty quickly. My pain tolerance is high, but I just didn't get a chance to get back in the game."

Watson was in obvious pain after the injury, leaning on Jazz trainers while walking back to the locker room. He was also frustrated about the injury after the game.
