Utah Jazz shootaround Favors, Howard doubtful vs. Clippers; Evans leaps over Camaro
Notes following Jazz shootaround Tuesday morning at EnergySolutions Arena.
Utah forwards Derrick Favors (sprained right ankle) and Josh Howard (strained left quad) are doubtful for a game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Howard said he doesn't think he'll be able to take the court due to his injury. He sat out Utah's road win Sunday against Denver after his quad tightened up during pregame warmups.
"I was in the training room getting rehab [during shootaround]," Howard said. "I probably won't go today."
Favors said he'll re-evaluate his ankle once he arrives at the arena tonight.
"I want to be able to play, but at the same time I've got to be careful about it," he said. "I've still got a lot of games to play and I don't want to do something worse to it."
He added: "It swelled up a little bit. There's a little pain when I make cuts and jump. I've just got to take care of it."
The Jazz are expected to start Devin Harris, Raja Bell, Gordon Hayward, Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson.
Clippers guard Chris Paul (hamstring) will travel with the team and is questionable. Mo Williams and Brian Cook are doubtful.
Gordon Hayward on Blake Griffin: He's very explosive. He can make plays happen that you didn't think were possible. He makes you change up your defense a little bit and you've got to worry about him a little bit more. He's a very exciting player.
How special is Griffin: Yeah, I see it everyday in practice with Jeremy [Evans]. Last year, I think it was a preseason game, Jeremy dunked on him. I see it everyday in practice. The things that they're able to do they take off outside the block. You wouldn't think, 'Well, I've got to get the over, because he might dunk it from over here,' you know? They're exciting.
Evans on if Hayward's right: Oh, yeah. I think so. Measure the verticals, I think I got [Griffin]. But he is a high-flyer.
Whether he's leaped over a Kia: No. But I did jump over my Camaro. The front end. I didn't think I could make it, but I tried it, just watching Blake.
Was he dunking: No. I just jumped over the car.
