Notes from the Jazz's shootaround Friday morning at EnergySolutions Arena.
Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said he hopes to tighten his rotation against Philadelphia and starting point guard Devin Harris needs to push the tempo more.
Corbin on Harris: We need more speed. We've got to get him to push the tempo a little bit more, especially early in the game, early in the offense. Get the ball down the floor so we can get more than 14, 15 seconds of the offense in a half-court set.
Corbin on the 76ers: They've been together a year. Primarily guys that's playing for them were on the team last year. I think 90 percent of the guys that's scoring for them now were on the team last year, so they're familiar with each other. They're ahead of the curve a little bit, they know what they're doing offensively, they have an idea what they're going to get on the defensive end of the floor and they really push the ball. They spread the floor, they shoot a lot of 3-pointers and do a good job of attacking the basket, kicking out to their 3-point shooters. They're capable of posting [Elton] Brand and [Spencer] Hawes is having a great year for them. It's a good ball club. We have to come out and play.
Corbin on watching game tape Thursday: We just talked about where we were. … We talked about what [the guys] see and how we can continue to get better. … The effort was the first part. I don't think we came out with the kind of effort we had in training camp. I don't know if fatigue, anxiety from the starting up or just the whole short training camp and the first couple games. But I thought it was a good exercise, it was a good film session, it was a good meeting we had and we're looking forward to a big effort for tonight.
Corbin on benching Derrick Favors: Paul had a great training camp and he deserved to start, as I told you guys before. We thought we would give Derrick some minutes early and unfortunately he's gotten in foul trouble the two games we've started him and it kind of hurt the rotation a little bit. He'll still play his minutes and Paul is a veteran, he knows how to start games off and I think it'll give us a better chance to match up tonight. … I think [Favors] gets hesitant after he gets the early fouls and it throws his whole rhythm off. He'll get a chance to watch coming off the bench and relax a little bit.
