C.J. Miles already achieved one goal. He wanted to drop weight during the offseason and he did just that, saying Thursday he tips the scales at 222 pounds — 15 less than he weighed during the 2010-11 season.

Now, Miles has one more mountain to climb. The veteran forward said he wants to start for the Jazz, and he's fine if the first-string position is at the 2 or 3.

"My goal from the second the season ended to when I went into work was I was going to come into camp and be the starting shooting guard or small forward — they're interchangeable," Miles said. "That was my goal: I was going to be the starter. It's my job to take, so if it's up there, I'm going to take it."

Miles, Gordon Hayward, Raja Bell and Alec Burks are expected to compete for time at the 2 and 3 once training camp starts Dec. 9.Brian T. SmithTwitter: @tribjazzbsmith@sltrib.comfacebook.com/tribjazz
