Transcript of an interview Tuesday with Sacramento/ex-BYU guard Jimmer Fredette, who will host an exhibition game Thursday night at the Marriott Center in Provo.Fredette on the roster and his excitement about the exhibition: It's a great roster. Eight first-round picks, five second-round picks playing, so it's going to be great competition. Obviously my teammate Jackson Emery from BYU is going to be playing, so that'll be fun to play with him again. It's a real exciting time for me and I think all these guys to be able to get together and have a good game, play against good competition, but also with some fans in the seats to see what it's going to be like playing in the NBA against that type of competition. Anyone he's looking forward to competing against: I'm excited to play against all these guys. I haven't seen Bismack Biyombo play; that's the only guy on this list I actually haven't seen play. Obviously [Kenneth] Faried is an unbelievable athlete, so I can see what type of athlete I'll be playing against in the NBA; I guess he's probably going to be one of the better athletes there. So it'll be good to see these guys play. Most of them I've played with or was able to meet and have good relationships with throughout the draft process, and also dating back to last year when we played in USA Basketball. His routine the last couple months: I took a little time off after the draft, just because it's a grueling process. I was able to take a couple weeks and hang out with my family and friends and do some fun things. … I've just been working out by myself and with my trainer and also with some of the BYU guys and some of the former BYU guys, trying to get good runs in and doing that type of stuff. … I'm here in Provo just living and working out. We do it mostly at the Marriott Center. It's obviously a great facility and not anybody's in there, so we can just go in there and play. I've just been working on my ballhandling skills and continue to work on the pick-and-roll game. I think that's the biggest thing in the NBA now — you've got to be able to guard the pick-and-roll and also make good decisions off of the pick-and-roll and do different things off of the pick-and-roll. That's the league that we're in right now, especially as a point guard. So that's what I've been really working on.Any contact with Kings players, and possibly joining them for an informal training camp if the lockout continues: I haven't. I spoke to Tyreke [Evans] and DeMarcus [Cousins] right after the draft. They kind of just welcomed me to the team and said, 'If you need anything, let me know and we'll be there to help.' That was great to hear from those guys. But we haven't talked about getting together yet. I'm sure that once this thing starts going toward the season and if we're missing games or whatever, we'll get together and be able to work out together and kind of hang around each other and feel each other out and see how things are going to be going. I'm looking forward to being able to do that if the opportunity arises.Making it work with the Kings' loaded backcourt: I'm looking forward to being able to play with those guys. They're very, very talented. Tyreke is a bigger guard that can really slash to the basket. … I think that we complement each other very well. But it's all about that chemistry once we get on the floor and seeing how things go. I think we're going to fit together perfectly. We're both unselfish guys that'll be able to get each other involved in the game and get everybody else involved as well. It's all about going out there and just working it out and trying to get jelled as quick as we possibly can and get ready for the season.Having time to reflect on a very successful year: Yeah, definitely. After the draft I was able to relax a little bit. I'm back to working out. I've got a great regiment where I'm working out a couple of times a day and doing that whole thing and trying to get ready for the season. But I can also reflect on everything that's happened. It's been great; it's been a lot of fun to look back at the season that we had last year. Just all the hype that was surrounding and just to see what our team accomplished and I accomplished. It allowed for me to able to go through the whole draft process and know that you fulfilled your dream. You got picked in the top 10 of the NBA Draft and that's something that not a lot of people get to experience. It was an unbelievable last year for me. And obviously the biggest thing is that I was able to get engaged and find my future wife. That's the biggest part of anything; I'm so excited about it. That's the best year that I could possibly have. I couldn't really hope for anything better. Now I'm just looking forward to starting the new phase of my life in every aspect and move forward and have a great career and a great married life.Brian T.
