If you were a fan of AMC’s dark and gritty crime drama, "The Killing," here’s some otherwise cheery news: The show will finish up with six final episodes on Netflix.
The streaming video service announced today that the drama will finish its run on Netflix instead of the TV network where it was broadcast for three seasons.
"The Killing" stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman as two Seattle detectives who first solved the murder of a young girl in the first two seasons, and then the case of a serial killer in the third season.
The first season started out as a gripping drama that largely focused on the agony of losing a loved one to murder, but then it devolved into a wildly frantic whodunit stuffed with overwrought city politics and plenty of red herrings.
The third season was much better as it told two stories, one the case of a serial killer preying on homeless teens, and another about a man on death row blamed for one of the murders. That inmate was brilliantly played by character actor Peter Sarsgaard.
But the stories really play second fiddle to the real charm of the series — Enos and Kinnaman as two very different detectives who nonetheless have a lot of chemistry.
The series ended on a bit of an ambiguous note (no spoilers here), and frankly I liked the way it finished. The last four episodes of that season were about as good as anything AMC has broadcast, including "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad."
But Netflix says it can tie up all of the loose ends with the final episodes. The company did not say when the show would air, but the first three seasons already are on Netflix for viewing.
