(Lindsay Whitehurst | The Salt Lake Tribune) City Creek Canyon to Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
Hike of the week: City Creek Canyon to Bonneville Shoreline Trail

Directions • Start at Memory Grove park in Salt Lake City, located at 300 North Canyon Road (about 120 East) or 11th Avenue and B Street. This beautiful little park is a real Salt Lake City gem.

Walk north after entering the park, and the path will pass over a stream and start up the canyon. On a recent day, though, it petered out relatively quickly to a slightly steep dropoff to the stream, so I crossed back over the river and up to the 1.2-mile paved City Creek path, then took another small path up again to the start of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

The trail climbs up and behind a neighborhood, offering beautiful views of the Capitol and the Salt Lake Valley. Follow the path as long as you’d like, then head back down to the park. The trail is popular with cyclists, so be aware and share the space.
