Hike of the week: North Canyon Trail
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2013, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

Directions • From Salt Lake City, take Interstate 15 north to the 2600 South exit in Bountiful. Turn right off the exit and follow the road as it turns into Orchard Drive. Turn right on 1800 South, and turn right at Bountiful Boulevard at the bottom of a steep hill. Follow it for about a mile and a half, then take a left on Canyon Creek. Hike starts at the end of the pavement.

The trail starts out wide enough to accommodate a car, and people do drive it, but it's not recommended this time of year because it's muddy and very rough. As you begin, you can hear a creek to one side of the path and see some fall foliage on either side. About 30 minutes in, the trail becomes narrower and begins to climb into aspens with fiery yellow leaves until you reach a viewpoint that takes in mountains and a bit of the Great Salt Lake. Hikers here share the trail with dirt bikers.

This hike treats the trail as an out-and-back, but it also connects with the Mueller Park trail for a longer loop.
