In a move that's sure to anger the people who already know it and love it, the Bureau of Land Management is promoting the Paria Canyon/Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area.
Not many people know of the area href="http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/blm_special_areas/wildareas/paria_vermilion.html" target="_blank">because it's so isolated. The area straddles Utah and Arizona with most of the acreage sitting in the latter state. The area is best known for The Wave, the red rock formation with bright lines up and down them on the Arizona side.
Not only is the well-produced video a promotion for the wilderness area, it provides safety warnings. There's a long list of ways to get hurt or die, including:
— Sun stroke/heat exhaustion
— Snake or insect bites
— Bad footing
— Falling rock
— Flash floods
— Anything else that can happen if you get lost
But chances are you'll watch the video and still want to go. Be courteous to the people who already are there.
