Cindy and Kirk Sinclair are hiking from California to Delaware, and of all the stories they could find along the way, one in Utah stands out.
According to the href="http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/jan/21/no-headline---ev_hiker/" target="_blank">Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press, the Sinclairs found a benefactor in Utah. The generosity is poignant because the couple is making the 5,000-mile trek to address, according to href="http://www.hikinghumanitarian.com/ " target="_blank">the Sinclairs' website, "housing, health and hunger."
From the Courier & Press href="http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/jan/21/no-headline---ev_hiker/" target="_blank">article:
In Utah, they met a woman whose story invoked the same message that the Sinclairs have advocated. Carolyn Roderick was a single mother when she lost her house to a fire. The rural Utah community rallied to her defense and helped her through her crisis. Years later, Roderick met the Sinclairs at a road crossing after they had a "very tough day."
"We were hiking through the Utah wilderness in pretty rough conditions, so we probably looked pretty pathetic," Kirk said.
Seeing the couple in their condition inspired her to offer food and shelter free of charge at her mother's bed-and-breakfast.
