Green River Fishing Report for October 17th, 2012Flows: Steady at 800Hatches: Small BWO's in fair numbers, a few October Caddis out.Dry fly fishing has remained inconsistent. Some days being great and some being bad. It seems to be hit or miss.
When the wind stays down pods of fish rising to tiny BWO's appear. I have fished small terrestrials to catch risers versus trying to match such a small fly. Anything black has been best dry.
Dry dropper has been my most effective method of fishing. I have still been getting the occasional rise to a bigger terrestrial, like a hopper or cricket, while having good fishing on the dropper. Eggs, worms, and zebra midges have been my most productive droppers.
The few times I have nymphed with an indicator were during the BWO hatch. Small gray soft hackles and Barr's emergers worked best. Really anything small and gray should do the trick.
B and C sections continue to be my favorites showing off a lot of great fish. Yesterday on B we had a raptor show as we saw a bald eagle, two golden eagles, and an osprey patrolling the skies. We also saw an otter, beaver, and a buck (apparently unaware of the upcoming hunt as he was not scared of us) to round out a good wildlife day. With fewer anglers on the water at this time of year the wildlife seems to be more abundant. The year of the Rainbow continues.
