Green River Fishing Report for August 22, 2012 from Ryan Kelly with Flaming Gorge ResortFlows: Continue the same, around 1,350 during the day. Hatches: On sunny days there have been some spotty tricos (#24) and a few tiny PMD's (#24-26)Well, fishing is inconsistent at the moment. Having a versatile skill set is definitely a plus right now. In the past week we have caught fish on big dries, tiny dries, medium dries, nymph fishing, woolly buggers, small streamers, mice, dry/dropper, and scuds.
With unusually warm temps the fish have been holding in deeper water or faster riffles. Look to these areas for the best success. Be prepared to try different methods. Be observant on where and how the fish are feeding. Catch rate has definitely been lower in comparison to the previous months. If you work for them you can still get them. Take on the challenge and get a good one.
On an exciting note, we saw some bighorn sheep on the A section for the first time in a long time. The herd that lived in the canyon was destroyed by the state to prevent a lung disease from spreading among bighorn populations a couple of years ago. I hope we start to see a few more come back. The otter's seem to be coming back as well. While I see them very sparingly, I have seen them more often than last year.
