Ryan Mosley,Flaming Gorge Project Leader for the UDWR, sent in this report and some pictures of a new fishing pier located at the dam.
Anglers now have another venue to enjoy at Flaming Gorge Reservoir! An ADA accessible fishing pier was recently installed at the Dam Visitor Area (at Flaming Gorge Dam) as part of a coordinated effort with the US Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Scenic Byway Project, and Utah Division of Wildlife. Funding for the fishing pier was provided by the Utah Blue Ribbon Fisheries Council. The fishing pier is 8 ft wide and 80 ft long, surrounded by protective handrails featuring slots to net or land fish. At the current reservoir elevation, the end of the pier sits over about 35 ft of water providing anglers of all ages with access to coldwater fish like rainbow trout and possibly even lake trout. Smallmouth bass should also be a common catch during the summer months.
The Dam Visitor Area is currently open from sunrise to sunset and also provides shaded picnic areas for family groups, an ADA accessible trail down to the shoreline and pier, and a short term boat courtesy dock for those accessing the area from the water.
